If you are someone who consider themselves to be highly caring, then you might want to make the most of this nature by turning it into some kind of a career. If you are currently on the lookout for a career change of some kind, then using this natural ability should be a great way to make sure that you can bring out the best in others, help them through difficult times, and even help them become better people. All of this drives from being able to care, so it’s worth making full use of that skill if it’s something you have by considering any or all of the following care-related jobs.
Crisis Worker
Whether it is the loss of several loved ones, or something much bigger like a natural disaster, there are many situations when people need something more than just a care worker. In these cases, they might call on the help of a crisis worker, and there is really no other job in the world quite like this. If you are thinking of getting into this line of work, you should be prepared for some particularly difficult situations to become the absolute norm for you. However, you will also be helping people through genuinely some of the most difficult times they can possibly experience, so you will also find that you are doing great work which feels good too. Become a crisis worker if you think you can handle great levels of stress well and you want to help[ people through hard times.
Counsellor
There are actually many kinds of counsellor, but in general this will come up as one umbrella under the larger one of social work jobs. To be a good counsellor, you need to have a keen understanding of how people work mentally, and that can mean that you have a background in psychology, or uist that you are incredibly observant. Either way, you will need to take some kind of a qualification to be able to counsel, but as long as you do, you’ll probably find this to be a particularly enjoyable way of using your natural caring skills to help others. You can be a counsellor for a particular kind of mental health problem, a family counsellor, or really anything in between – it’s entirely up to you.
Nurse
Nurses are not often included on these lists, but the truth is that they provide a great deal of care compared to many other people in many other walks of life. If you think you would prefer to get into a medical kind of caring, then becoming a nurse is probably one of the first things you will consider doing, and in fact it is one of the most rewarding jobs that you can possibly get involved in. be sure that you really want to do it before you start the training, as we are talking many years of training before being able to land that job.
If you don’t fancy being a nurse but you do have relevant experience in the industry then how about becoming an EMT instead. You will be responsible for driving the ambulance and helping people who are in need of emergency medical attention. If you have taken some time off from working then you may want to take a refresher course before heading back into the field. Have a look at this EMT prep course to freshen up all your knowledge.
Good piece, not my field of experience but it’s nice to see somebody promoting these roles as viable careers.
Appreciate these sincere comments Elsa and yes, why shouldn’t people look for such jobs as career options? As a society, we tend to look at these roles as more voluntary or for helpers. These roles require a solid hard work ethic which deserves a good wage, just like any other job.
True words Mark, but more so by prompting these roles as career options, you tell future generations that it is possible to do a job you love and get paid for it.
I agree with Rita, if we want to get more kids involved in social health and welfare roles then the way we promote these positions needs to change, perhaps with schools and colleges as a starting point?
